SL vs PAK | 1st Test | Abdullah Shafique achieves unique feat

The young opener Abdullah Shafique achieved a remarkable feat during Pakistan's second innings in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.

Shafique, whose Test runs tally reads 672 at the moment, became the Pakistani batter with the most runs after six Test matches. He surpassed the legendary Javed Miandad in this process, who had 652 runs to his name after as many Test appearances.

Since debuting against Bangladesh in November last year, Shafique has quickly established himself as Pakistan's first-choice opener in the purest format.

The stylish batter from Sialkot was Pakistan's best batter in the Australia Tests, with 397 runs at a stupendous average of 79.40

Shafique, who was trapped in front by Prabath Jayasuriya for just 13 in the first innings of the ongoing Sri Lanka Test, slammed a scintillating ton on the fourth day, swinging the game into the visitors' favour to a large extent.

The 22-year-old gave Pakistan a solid start by adding 87 runs with Imam-ul-Haq for the first wicket before Ramesh Mendis dismissed the latter.

Although the visitors had their hearts in their mouths for a while after Azhar Ali's dismissal, Shafique stitched a gritty 101-run stand with Babar Azam, putting his team in the driver's seat.

Shafique returned unbeaten on 112, with Pakistan needing 120 runs to win with seven wickets in hand at stumps on Day 4.
