SL v AUS | Sean Abbott ruled out of the tour due to injury

In a latest development, Australian pacer Sean Abbott has been ruled out of the ongoing Sri Lankan tour after injuring his left index finger while batting in the nets ahead of the 1st T20I in Colombo on Tuesday (June 07).

Abbott wasn't picked for the opening T20I of the three-match series but was scheduled to link up with the Australian A team for the upcoming couple of 50-over games and two 4-day fixtures.

While Cricket Australia is yet to name his replacement in the T20I squad, medium pacer Scot Boland has been called-up for the 'A' series.

Apart from Abbott, middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb has also returned home to attend the birth of his child and Jimmy Peirson has been called-up as his replacement in the 'A' squad.

Meanwhile, reigning T20 world champions Australia have taken complete control of the ongoing first T20I against the home side.

Batting first, Sri Lanka got off to a blazing start as the duo of Danushka Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka added 50 runs in the powerplay.

However, as has been the case with Lanka in recent years, their batting-unit once again flattered to deceive as the middle-order could not back up the good work done by Nissanka.

Nissanka (36 off 31) was dismissed by Mitchell Starc in the 12th over and it proceeded to trigger a collapse as the home side went from being 2-100 to 7-118, with Josh Hazlewood claiming three scalps in one over.

Hazlewood dismissed Kusal Mendis, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dasun Shanaka within a pace of 5 deliveries to derail Lanka's momentum.

It went from bad to worse as  Charith Asalanka, who had scored a 34-ball 38 at the time, and Chamika Karunaratne got run out in successive overs on either side of the rain break.

At the time of writing, Sri Lanka were 7-119 after 17 overs.
