Shubman Gill Equals Babar Azam’s Record With Another ICC Player of The Month Award

Indian opener Shubman Gill has grabbed the ICC Player of the Month award for February 2025. This marks the third time in his career that he has taken home the coveted prize.

Shubman Gill Creates History By Matching Babar Azam’s World Record

With this achievement, Gill has now equalled former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s world record of winning the award three times who won the award in April 2021, March 2022 and August 2023.

The prodgious batter, who has been on a run-scoring spree, previously won the award in January 2023 and September 2023 before clinching it again this February. This makes him only the second player in cricket history after Babar to achieve this feat.

Gill’s Incredible February Run

Gill was in red-hot form throughout February 2025, playing five matches for India and scoring 406 runs, including two centuries and two fifties across Champions Trophy and the ODI series against England.

Champions Trophy Brilliance: Gill remained unbeaten on 101 in India’s tournament opener against Bangladesh on February 20. He followed it up with a quick-fire 46 against Pakistan in Dubai.

His consistent match-winning knocks played a huge role in India’s 3-0 ODI series whitewash over England and their flawless Champions Trophy win. And to top it all off, Gill’s sensational form saw him rise to No. 1 in the ICC ODI batters ranking.

Gill Joins India’s Elite List

With three Player of the Month awards, Gill now leads the pack among Indian cricketers, followed by Jasprit Bumrah, who has won it twice. 

A number of Indian stars including Rishabh Pant, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal have won the award once. But now, Gill stands in a league of his own.
