India all-rounder Shivam Dube has been excluded from Mumbai's Ranji Trophy 2025-26 squad on the eve of their season opener against J&K. The all-rounder is believed to have pulled out due to back stiffness, as he flew back home to Mumbai from Srinagar on Tuesday evening.

Shivam Dube, just after his Asia Cup campaign, where he emerged as a potential all-rounder with both bat and ball, will probably be out of the season till the India tour of Australia. Shivam Dube has been a prolific performer for Mumbai as well, yet his back stiffness might trouble him ahead of the tour, where he is supposed to be in action in T20Is, starting on October 29.

Musheer Khan called up to replace Shivam Dube

Hence, Dube’s return home is seen as a precautionary measure. While Shivam Dube will have to wait for the Australia tour before making his Ranji return, Mumbai is said to call up all-rounder Musheer Khan, who missed the previous season due to a neck and collarbone injury suffered in a road accident.

Nevertheless, Shardul Thakur will lead Mumbai in the absence of Shivam Dube, while Sarfaraz Khan is also back from injury to strengthen the squad. Sarfaraz suffered a quadriceps injury just before the Test series against West Indies, which ruled him out of the entire series. Now, he is fit to play in the Ranji Trophy.

Mumbai are placed in Group D alongside J&K, Hyderabad, Delhi, Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. The opening round of the 2025-26 season will see them face J&K, which also happens to be a rematch of last season’s group fixture. Mumbai will be facing J&K on October 15 at the Sher-i-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar from 9:30 AM IST.
