Sharjah Warriors squad announced for International League T20 2023

Capri Global-owned Sharjah Warriors on Thursday (18 August) announced their squad for the inaugural edition of the International League T20 (ILT20). The much-awaited tournament is slated to be played in January-February 2023. 

The key international players in the Warriors squad are Moeen Ali, Dawid Malan, Evin Lewis, Mohammad Nabi and Chris Woakes.  

Apart from Nabi, the other three Afghan players are, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Naveen Ul Haq and Noor Ahmad, who have made rapid strides in the shortest format. 

The experienced English domestic players like Tom Kohler Cadmore and Danny Briggs have translated their red-ball success to white-ball cricket to earn a place in the squad. 

JJ Smit became the third Namibian player after David Wiese and Ruben Trumplemann to find a place in the squad of the ILT20 franchises. The remaining two players are Mark Deyal and Bilal Khan.

Who can be the captain of Sharjah Warriors?

Recently, Ali was acquired by the Joburg Super Kings for the CSA T20 League, which will coincide with the ILT20 next year. This latest announcement by the Warriors have certainly cast a shadow on the captain choice for the inaugural season. 

The other experienced players like Malan and Nabi are the contenders for donning the role of a leader. However, the South Africa board has also opened the player registrations for the 2023 season of CSA T20 League on Thursday, which might witness the rising interest of some of the players in this squad as well.
