The swashbuckling batter Shimron Hetmyer has been appointed as the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2022 season.

Hetmyer has been part of the Warriors' side since the 2016 season and has featured in 47 matches. In the last edition of the tournament, the 25-year-old slammed 218 runs to take the team to the semi-finals.

He has replaced Nicholas Pooran, who will now feature for the Trinbago Knight Riders from the forthcoming season.

Hetmyer displayed his leadership skills by helping West Indies to secure their maiden U-19 title in the 2016 edition of the U19 World Cup.

Hetmyer speaks on the appointment

“Im really happy to be appointed captain of my country franchise, I’m excited to lead this group of men! I can’t wait for the CPL to begin," said Hetmyer.
