In this season of trades, Indian bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur has been released by the Delhi Capitals and has found a home in Kolkata Knight Riders, as per reports surfacing in the media. Thakur, in the last mega auction, was bought for a whooping sum of INR 10.75 crores, however; he turned out to be an overpriced buy as he couldn't contribute much to the team's cause.

As per an ESPN report, the 31-year-old has been traded to the two-time champions in an all-cash deal. Earlier in the week, KKR also acquired the services of Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Sam Billings, on the other hand, has opted out of the Indian Premier League to concentrate more on red-ball cricket.

Thakur, who was a prolific talent for Chennai in the past, didn't perform as per the reputation. He picked 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy of 9.79, and could only score 120 runs with the bat. Although a player like him can be a huge assistance to Kolkata as they didn't had an Indian bowling all-rounder in their squad last year.

For the trading window before the auction, the BCCI increased the purse for all franchises from INR 90 crores to INR 95 crores - making KKR's purse INR 7.25 cr before any trade (after Billings opted out). However, Ferguson and Gurbaz's purchase has cost them INR 10.50 cr, and now Thakur's acquisition will fetch another 10.75 crores off their pocket.

The BCCI has asked all the franchises to do all players trading before November 15 (Tuesday), and the mini-auction for the IPL 2023 is scheduled on November 23.
