Someone who was once called Mumbai's lucky charm, is now on their maiden release before the upcoming mini-auction. Mumbai Indians have released Kieron Pollard.
In what comes as a shocker to many and a fair call to the others, the five-time champions may have parted ways with Pollard, English premier fast-bowler Tymal Mills and athletic all-rounder Fabian Allen.
As per a media report, the most successful IPL franchise have submitted their final retention list to the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
After a dwelling season last year, where they lost 10 out of 14 group-stage games, a lot of changes were expected in the Mumbai dugout as their core looked weaker and performed even dreadfully.
In IPL 2022, Pollard - who has been with the Ambani family owned franchise - had the poorest IPL season in term of numbers as he could score only 134 runs at a strike rate of 107.46 from 11 games.
The 35-year-old announced his international retirement last year in April, and it was predicted then that it would also be the end of the Pollard-Mumbai bond - but the Trinidadian continued playing for the franchise before getting dropped at the fag-end of the season. Later that year, he had pretty mediocre performances in The Hundred and in the Caribbean Premier League as well.
Meanwhile, Pollard's fellow Windies player Allen could play only a single game for MI as he got injured mid-season.
The English left-armer Mills, on the other hand, had a woeful last season as he smashed all across the park in the five games that he played for the Rohit Sharma-led unit. With Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff in the groove, Mills' departure seems like a sound call.
At the moment, the Mumbai-based franchise have INR 4.35 crores left in their purse, but the purse would go up to INR 12.60 crores when they officially release the trio.
