Shane Watson explains why Cameron Green can't be a part of Australia's World Cup XI

Promising Australian all-rounder Cameron Green grabbed a million eyeballs by performing admirably in the recently concluded T20I series against India. The muscular young lad capitalised on his batting promotion, hammering 118 runs, including two breathtaking half-centuries at a blistering strike rate of 214.55.

Green's astonishing performance gave rise to the debate regarding his inclusion in Australia's T20 World Cup squad. Like many other Australian legends, former all-rounder Shane Watson has recently shared his opinion on it.

Watson stressed that Australia shouldn't prefer Green over their core players, who were instrumental in their triumphant World Cup campaign last year.

Having said that, he also maintained that the budding all-rounder could be given a go only if someone from the core group gets injured.

Here's what Watson stated on Green's World Cup inclusion

"It's unfortunate from Cam Green's perspective because he is certainly good enough to be given a chance to play in that Australian team, but I'd definitely give the players who did a great job in the last T20 World Cup the first opportunity and the opportunity to play this World Cup at home, because there's no weak links in that Aussie team,"

"The only time I think he should be coming into the squad is if someone gets injured or they don't recover from their injury."

Notably, Australia's two first-choice batting all-rounders, Marcus Stoinis and Mitchell Marsh, missed the India series due to injuries. Now, while Marsh is set to play in the West Indies T20Is, Stoinis is yet to recover from his injury. So it's needless to say that if he fails to recover in time, we might see Green getting a wild-card entry into the showpiece event.
