  • Shakib Al Hasan Supports Bcbs Move To Appoint Nurul Hasan As The T20i Skipper

Shakib Al Hasan supports BCB’s move to appoint Nurul Hasan as the T20I skipper

Shakib Al Hasan finds Nurul Hasan’s appointment as a T20I captain, a good step for the future of Bangladesh Cricket.

On Friday, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced Hasan as the captain of the Tigers team for the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The matches will take place from 30 July to 2 August in Harare.

The 28-year-old replaced Mahmudullah, who led the side in 43 matches of the shortest format.

Hasan had an astounding 2022 season of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, wherein he scored 483 runs at an average of 96.60.

He was one of the key architects of the Tigers’ recent ODI series win in West Indies with his contribution of 52 runs (unbeaten in both innings) in two innings. Hasan did not bat in the second ODI.

Shakib feels the wicket-keeper is worthy of donning the leadership role. He hopes Hasan will be able to overcome the challenge posed by Zimbabwe successfully.

"I think he is capable and the BCB thought that Sohan [Nurul Hasan] will be able to give a lot of things to Bangladesh cricket in future, which is the reason he was appointed captain of the T20I side,” said Shakib.

“I wish him all the best and I hope the upcoming Zimbabwe series will be a challenge he will be able to overcome.”

Shakib focussing on Test leadership

For the last few weeks, there were speculations of Shakib taking over the reins from Mahmudullah as a T20I captain.

However, the 35-year-old has refuted the claims and wants the team to progress well in the purest format.

Under the leadership of Shakib, Bangladesh lost both their Test matches in the Caribbean last month. He added the Tigers will need time to do well in the red-ball matches.

With a point of percentage of 13.33, Bangladesh are in the ninth position of the World Test Championship 2021/23 points table.

"I think it will take time for us to do well in the Test format. There is a possibility that the team will go through a transition period which is the reason it might take some time for us," said Shakib.
