Dhawan to lead India as BCCI announces ODI squad ahead the West Indies tour

Shikhar Dhawan has been named as the captain of team India as the BCCI has announced a 16-member squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies.

Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the series as a part of their workload management.

However, all these players will likely participate in the five-match T20I series.

While Shikhar Dhawan has been elected as India's captain for the second time in his career, the experienced all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been chosen as his deputy for the series.

Shubman Gill's comeback into India's ODI setup is a significant highlight of this announcement.

Gill has made an ODI return for the first time since the 2020 Australia tour and has been picked as the third opener alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shikhar Dhawan.

Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan, and Sanju Samson likely form India's middle order.

However, it will be interesting to see whom India picks between Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan as their wicketkeeper.

Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh will form the pace battery of the team.

India's white-ball tour against West Indies kickstarts with the ODI leg, with all three games scheduled at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad.

India's squad for the ODIs against West Indies:

Shikhar Dhawan (C), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh
