Sarfaraz Khan's impressive performances in domestic cricket have positioned him as a strong contender for a place in India's Test squad. His notable achievements include scoring 556 runs in six matches during the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy, averaging 92.66, and recording three centuries. In the previous season of the Ranji Trophy (2021-22), Sarfaraz accumulated 982 runs at an average of 122.75.

Despite these remarkable performances, he was once again not selected for the West Indies tour, with IPL stars Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad being preferred instead. The decision faced significant criticism from experts, and Sarfaraz's Instagram story addressing the situation has gained considerable attention.

After the announcement of the Test squad, Sarfaraz Khan shared a picture of the batting nets on his Instagram along with the caption "One Love." The post also featured the title track from the movie "Lakshya" playing in the background.

In response to the squad selection, renowned Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar voiced his disappointment, expressing concern that such decisions could demoralize young players. Gavaskar further expressed his worry that aspiring cricketers may start viewing participation in franchise-based leagues as the sole path to secure a place in the national team.

"Sarfaraz Khan has been scoring at an average of 100 in all past three seasons. What does he have to do to be picked in the squad? He might not be in the XI, but you pick him in the team. Tell him that his performances are being recognized. Otherwise, stop playing Ranji Trophy. Say, it's of no use, you just play IPL and think you are good enough for the red ball game as well," he said.
