  • Sam Northeast Scripts History Becomes The First Batter Since Brian Lara To Score 400 In First Class Innings

Sam Northeast scripts history, becomes the first batter since Brian Lara to score 400 in First-Class innings

Sam Alexander Northeast – remember the name as Glamorgan's star right-handed batter achieved an unprecedented feat on Saturday while batting in the County Championship against Leicestershire

Northeast reached 410 not out against the Leicester-based club to etch his name in the history books as he became just the fourth batter to overwhelm this milestone in the County Championship.

The West Indies great Brian Lara, AC MacLaren and Graeme Hick are the other three legends who hold the record of scoring 400 runs in a County Championship innings. Sam Northeast is the new entrant into this list.

The 32-year-old reached the elite landmark in style, punching down two back-to-back sixes. His record-breaking knock was laced with 45 boundaries and three sixes.

Northeast's staggering score of 410* also saw him becoming only the ninth batter to cross the 400-run mark in a First-Class innings. He finished unbeaten on 410 as Glamorgan declared at 795/5 on day four of their Division Two match against Leicestershire.

Having resumed on his overnight score of 308, the 32-year-old batter went on to record the highest score by a Glamorgan batter in a First-Class innings during his jaw-dropping knock.

Northeast's marvellous innings also helped Glamorgan register their all-time highest total of 795 runs in the history of the County Championship.

Following Saturday's heroics, Northeast also became the leading-run scorer of the County Championship this season, leapfrogging Kent batter Ben Compton who has accumulated 1,117 runs so far.
