  • I Think The Next 12 Months Are Big For His Development Scott Styris On Prasidh Krishna

'I think the next 12 months are big for his development' - Scott Styris on Prasidh Krishna

The past year has seen the rise of the Indian seamer Prasidh Krishna in the international circuit. The 26-year-old has left the fans excited and impressed with his pace and bowling skills. Krishna has a variety of deliveries in his arsenal including toe-crushing yorkers.

So far, the right-arm seamer has represented the Men in Blue in only ten One Day Internationals scalping 20 wickets at an economy rate of 5.08 and an average of 21.4. Despite the limited game time, he is one of the most talked about Indian seamers from the younger generation.

Comparison between Prasidh Krishna and Glenn McGrath

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris is highly impressed with Krishna’s wicket-taking ability. The veteran also compared the bowler with the likes of Australian great Glenn McGrath. Just like Glenn, Krishna also rattles the opposition batters with his pace and bounce.

"Yeah, not a bad comparison. I would say that Prasidh Krishna is a little bit quicker than Glenn McGrath, there's no question about that. But the question is, can he sustain that throughout the whole innings?

“If we're talking ODIs then upfront I think there's no question. Pace and bounce as a batsman, from experience, is the hardest thing to play. He's got that in spades," Styris told Sports 18.

Styris concerned about Krishna’s death bowling ability

Though Styris was all praises for the young Indian seamer, he seemed concerned about his death bowling ability. Krishna hasn’t done well while bowling in the death. The 26-year-old has been hammered for a lot of runs towards the end of the innings, especially in the shortest format of the game.

Thus, the New Zealand veteran believes that the coming year will be very crucial in the seamer’s cricket career. Krishna has a lot to improve in order to cement a permanent place in the Indian team.

"He's brilliant with a new ball in his hand. The question about Prasidh Krishna is at the death. We've seen him in the Indian T20 league. He has gone around the park when trying to bowl yorkers and when he is under pressure.

“So, he's great at the front. I think the next 12 months are big for his development. Can he nail the back half of the innings? If he does that, I'll actually have him on my side," he signed off.
