On Friday, England will kickstart their WTC 2025-27 campaign with a high-voltage Test series against India. The inaugural contest of the five-match series will be played at the iconic Headingley in Leeds. 

As England gear up to face India, the focus is on Joe Root, who is expected to be their go-to man in the five-match series. The English great has already achieved stellar heights and might break several elite records of Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar in the series, as mentioned below.

Most half-centuries in India vs England Tests

Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has the most number of half-centuries (16) in India-England Test matches. Sachin Tendulkar claims the second position with 13 fifties, while Root follows him with eleven half-centuries under his belt. 

Thus, if Root slams three more fifties, he will surpass Tendulkar on the list. On the other hand, if he breaches the 50-run mark at least six times, the right-hander will register the most number of fifties in Test matches between India and England. 

Most International Runs In India vs England Matches

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is the most successful batter in India vs England international matches, having slammed 4036 runs across formats. Sachin Tendulkar is second on the list with 3990 runs, but he might soon be replaced by Joe Root, who has already raced to 3858 runs. 

Thus, Root needs only 133 runs to eclipse Tendulkar's tally on the list of highest run-getters in India vs England matches. Furthermore, if he manages 179 runs, he will go past Kohli and claim the first position on the list. 

Most 50+ Scores In India vs England International Matches

Joe Root has been an outstanding performer for England in international matches against India. Statistically, the batter has struck 28 fifty-plus scores, including 13 hundreds and 15 fifties, against the Indian team over the years. 

Interestingly, Root needs only five scores of fifty or more to go past Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, players with the joint-most fifty-plus scores in India vs England matches.
