Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for just a single in Maharashtra’s opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 season on Saturday, December 21. Leading Maharashtra at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in BKC, Mumbai; Gaikwad was trapped by Rajasthan fast bowler and ex-RCB quick Aniket Choudhary in just the fifth delivery of his innings.
Notably, Gaikwad’s downfall against a former RCB speedster occurred just a couple of days after the charismatic opener trolled the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise at a promotional event.

Chasing 216 runs for a win against Rajasthan, Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed for just a single from five deliveries by ex-RCB fast bowler Aniket Choudhary. Gaikwad, who also leads the CSK franchise in the IPL, was caught out by Manav Suthar as Maharashtra suffered an early blow in their small chase.
Remarkably, just a couple of days ago at a promotional event, the CSK captain had trolled the RCB franchise after he found out that his mic was turned off while speaking. When the anchor jokingly called out the mic mishap, Ruturaj Gaikwad humorously responded:
“(the engineer) might be someone from RCB”
It is worth noting that the RCB and CSK franchises share a fierce and competitive rivalry in IPL. Back during the IPL 2024 season, an overenthusiastic RCB bunch failed to shake hands with CSK members after registering a remarkable win to qualify for the playoffs.
Nonetheless, earlier in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 match, Rajasthan batted first and were folded out for just 215 in 40.1 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Kartik Sharma himself cracked 123 of those runs from 90 deliveries to top-score his team.
