In an interesting development, Russell Domingo has stepped down as Bangladesh head coach days after the Tigers were whitewashed by India in a two-match Test series in their backyard.

Domingo, who left for South Africa to celebrate Christmas, informed the board about his decision on Tuesday.

After Bangladesh's dramatic loss in the Dhaka Test, chairman Jalal Yunus was unamused with the leadership group. He seemed dissatisfied with Domingo's efforts, as he hinted at BCB's plans to hire a new coach.

Here's what Yunus had said

"In the mainstream, motivation is important. We don't just want a good coach, but he has to be a mentor. There's less scope to teach them skills at this level, but the coach needs to review performances with the players after a series,

"We need a coach who has an impact and influence on the team. You will soon see some changes. We are trying. We want a very strong team that can play quality and highly competitive team. We went close to beating India but it is tough to beat this team. We beat England and Australia in this ground, but India is a tougher side in these conditions."

Domingo began his tenure as the Bangladesh head coach in September 2019, a few months after Steve Rhodes was sacked following the ODI World Cup. Bangladesh grew leaps and bounds, especially in white-ball cricket, during his tenure.

He led Bangladesh to T20I series wins against Australia and New Zealand, a historic Test win in New Zealand, ODI series victories against South Africa and India at away and home, respectively.
