Kent Spitfires trumped Lancashire in the final of the 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup to bag their first List A silverware since 1978. Joey Evison, Grant Stewart and captain Joe Denly were the stars of the show to cap a remarkable 45-day campaign for their side at Trent Bridge.

Batting first, Kent Spitfires lost opener Ben Compton within the first over of their innings. His partner Joey Evison then launched a rescue mission with in-form Ollie Robinson as the duo staged a 79-run second-wicket stand. Evison himself top-scored in the innings with a crafty 97 and formed another 133-run stand with captain Denly for the subsequent wicket.

Alex Blake and outbound warhorse Darren Stevens cracked scores of over 30 in the death overs as the Spitfires finished with 306-6 off their 50 overs.

Lancashire’s response in the titular match launched with a boundary outbreak, with captain Keaton Jennings smacking 11 of them in his 62-ball 72-run knock. Steven Croft at number four struck an identical 72 in the middle overs, however, his dismissal triggered a late-order collapse in the chase.

Spitfires’ new-ball pacers Grant Stewart and Nathan Gilchrist claimed three wickets each as the duo dusted the Lancashire batters for just 285.

Evison, who scored 97 with the bat, also picked two with the ball and was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ on the big day.

Brief scores:

Kent Spitfires: 306-6 (50)

Joey Evison 97 (111), Joe Denly 78 (69)

Tom Bailey 2-46, Liam Hurt 2-64

Lancashire: 285 (48.4)

Keaton Jennings 72 (62), Steven Croft 72 (83)

Grant Stewart 3-42, Nathan Gilchrist 3-65
