Rohit Sharma's Exclusion From Fox Cricket's WC 2023 Team of the Tournament Stirs Debate

Australian broadcast network, Fox Cricket has excluded Indian captain Rohit Sharma from its "ICC World Cup 2023 team of the tournament," despite India's outstanding performance under his leadership. This decision has raised eyebrows, especially considering India's unbeaten run in the league stage with nine wins in nine games.

Fox Cricket's Team of the Tournament raises eyebrows by ignoring Rohit Sharma

Rohit, with his exceptional batting (503 runs) and effective captaincy, has led the Indian team to a stellar performance in the World Cup. Under his leadership, India remained undefeated in the league stage. Despite this, Fox Cricket chose to omit Rohit from its team of the tournament, a decision that has sparked considerable debate among fans and experts alike.

The team selected by Fox Cricket includes Quinton de Kock, David Warner, Rachin Ravindra, Virat Kohli, Ibrahim Omarzai, Glenn Maxwell, Ravindra Jadeja, Marco Jansen, Jasprit Bumrah (as captain), Adam Zampa, and Dilshan Madushanka, with Mohammed Shami as the 12th man.

Notably, Bumrah, despite his skills as a bowler, was an unexpected choice for the captaincy, particularly in light of Rohit's proven track record in leading teams to victory.

This exclusion of Rohit is being seen by some as a tactical move by the Australian network, possibly a mind game ahead of India's crucial World Cup 2023 semi-final against New Zealand on November 15.

With India aiming to become the first team to win the World Cup on home turf twice, the omission of their successful league-stage captain from such the playing XI has become a topic of intense discussion.

Cricket Australia had earlier named its "team of the tournament," which also saw Indian stars dominating the lineup. Virat Kohli was appointed as the captain, with Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja being part of the 12-member team.

The consistency in Indian players making it to such lists, except for the notable absence of Rohit in Fox Cricket's selection, has sparked serious debates.

As the semi-final approaches, the focus remains on how the Indian team, under Rohit's leadership, will respond to this challenge and whether they can continue their unbeaten streak to make history at the World Cup.
