India captain Rohit Sharma is just 68 runs away from overtaking the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in the list of most runs scored by an Indian captain in ODIs. He will have a chance to achieve this feat when India face New Zealand in their Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 2.
If Rohit scores 68 runs in the upcoming match, he will surpass Tendulkar and move up the rankings among India’s most successful ODI captains. At the top of this elite list is MS Dhoni, who amassed 6,641 runs in 200 ODIs as captain.

Although Rohit hasn’t posted big scores in the ongoing tournament so far, he has played some attacking innings at the top of the order. Notably, in the last two matches, he has scored 61 runs at an average of 30.50 and an impressive strike rate of 119.60.
Against Bangladesh, he scored a quick 41, setting the foundation for India’s successful run chase. Against Pakistan, he looked dangerous early on with 20 runs but was dismissed.
Meanwhile, India will be aiming to finish at the top of Group A with a win against New Zealand.
