Indian captain Rohit Sharma completed a remarkable milestone in his glorious career, marking 16 years in international cricket today. The date, June 23, 2007, holds a significant place in the memory of Indian cricket fans as it witnessed Rohit's debut for the Indian national team during an ODI encounter against Ireland in Belfast.

As a budding and relatively unknown talent at that time, the young Rohit, unfortunately, did not get an opportunity to bat or bowl in his inaugural match. Little did the cricketing fraternity realize that this unassuming start would set the stage for one of the most exceptional journeys in limited-overs cricket.

Rohit took to Instagram to share a special transformation post with his followers to celebrate this monumental occasion. The post featured a collage, juxtaposing an image from his first-ever photoshoot donning the Indian jersey with a recent snapshot reflecting his contemporary avatar in the national kit.

Notably, the charismatic Indian captain opted for an eloquent silence to narrate his magnificent journey from 2007 to the present day, conveying his sentiments through two emoticons. The first symbol depicted the Indian tricolour, while the second emoticon showcased a blue heart, India's jersey colour.

After bursting onto the scene through his exploits in the T20 World Cup 2007 and Commonwealth Bank Series 2008, Rohit faced a series of challenges, facing an insipid run of form and grappling with persistent fitness concerns. This ultimately led to his exclusion from the Indian squad, causing him to miss the 2011 World Cup

However, fate took an unexpected turn for the gifted batsman during the 2013 Champions Trophy, where he was promoted to the opening position. This alteration proved to be the catalyst that ignited Rohit's meteoric rise and propelled his limited-overs career to unimaginable heights.

The explosive opener engraved his name in history books by scoring his maiden ODI double-century later that year. He achieved the seemingly impossible feat once again the following year, striking an astonishing 264 runs against Sri Lanka, becoming the sole player to achieve this milestone more than once in the history of One Day Internationals. Continuing his awe-inspiring form, Rohit went on to register three double centuries in ODIs.

In the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the Indian veteran displayed unmatched batting brilliance as he amassed five centuries, the highest number by any batsman in a single edition of the marquee tournament.

Rohit is currently the captain of the Indian team after having taken over from Virat Kohli. The seasoned opener will look to end India's decade-long ICC title drought by leading the team to victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be played at home later this year.
