In a significant development, there are reports that the Rohit Sharma Academy, which opened in Dubai in 2024, has shut down because of a financial crunch. According to Khaleej Times, a leading media organisation in the UAE, reported that the players are demanding a refund, while the support staff are crying for salaries.

Rohit's Dubai Academy Shuts Down

Rohit shook hands with CricKingdom, a sports cricket academy, which used the hitman for their promotions and enrolling students, making them believe in an affiliation with the Indian captain.

"We joined with high expectations because of the Rohit Sharma name. The marketing was built entirely around Rohit, with his pictures prominently featured during promotions and trials. We thought the brand would ensure quality, " said Jithil as quoted by Khaleej Times.

However,  the report added that the trouble brewed in April-May 2025 when the classes became irregular and eventually, the parents were sent a text that the Rohit Sharma Academy is shutting down its operations.

Parents Ask For Fees Refund

Notably, the students had paid their fees in advance for a year and still await the refund, even two months after the operations were shut down.

"On May 28, parents were informed through WhatsApp by Sushil Sharma, CricKingdom's global operations head, that Grasport would no longer run the academy and would handle refunds for the remaining sessions," Jithil added.

Coaches Not Given Salaries

Further, the coaches are also tense as they have not been paid salaries for a long time.

"I have no money to pay my rent, and my landlord has asked me to vacate the room. I have nowhere to go. I haven't been paid since May. I pleaded with him multiple times, but all I received were empty promises," said assistant coach Tiran Sandun Wijesuriya.

Rohit Sharma is yet to issue an official statement on the matter, but the families of the affected are angry and want swift action.
