The Trent Rockets franchise has named charismatic all-rounders David Willey and Ashleigh Gardner as new captains of the men’s and women’s teams respectively for the upcoming fifth edition of The Hundred. While Gardner made her Hundred debut last year for the Rockets, Willey was roped in by the franchise earlier this year after spending two seasons each with Northern Superchargers and Welsh Fire.

Willey and Gardner will be replacing fellow all-rounders Lewis Gregory and Nat Sciver-Brunt as they now take the baton to lead the Rockets’ next big launch in The Hundred 2025.

Trent Rockets Hire Explosive All-Rounders For Hundred Blast-Off

As published by trentbridge.co.uk, former England cricketer and T20 globe-trotter David Willey has been appointed as captain of the men’s team of Trent Rockets for The Hundred 2025 season. The fast-bowling all-rounder holds an experience of 341 T20 games, and has picked up nearly 350 wickets in the format at an average of 23.08.

Willey has banked 4,541 T20 runs at an explosive strike rate of over 132. The 35-year-old also has captaincy experience in the form of leading Northamptonshire in Vitality T20 Blast games. Moreover, David Willey was part of the England team that lifted the 2022 T20 World Cup, underscoring his penchant for impacting high-stakes contests.

Ashleigh Gardner To Lead Trent Rockets

Ashleigh Gardner, on the other hand, led the Gujarat Giants Women’s franchise in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year. The legendary Australian all-rounder, a winner of three T20 World Cups and a Commonwealth Gold medal, played eight hundred-ball games in her debut Hundred season last year.

She cracked 176 runs in the tournament with a strike rate of 138.58, and picked up 10 wickets at an impressive average of 15.90 through her off-breaks.

Trent Rockets will play their first match of The Hundred 2025 season on August 8 at Edgbaston in Birmingham, with a usual women’s-men’s double header outing against Birmingham Phoenix.
