KL Rahul clattered Mumbai Indians by accumulating 20 runs off a single Nuwan Thushara over at Lucknow in match number 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. The LSG skipper took his time in the first four overs of the innings before leathering the Sri Lankan paceman with three boundaries and a six at the edge of the powerplay.

Rahul’s over of destruction also ensured that LSG raced to 46-1 by the end of its first five overs.


KL Rahul crashes Nuwan Thushara with 20-run over

KL Rahul scored just six runs from his first 14 deliveries after the early dismissal of opening partner Arshin Kulkarni as LSG reached 26-1 from four overs in a run-chase of 145 against Mumbai Indians.

With new partner Marcus Stoinis at the other end, Rahul eventually unleashed his wrath on Mumbai Indians’ new-ball quick Nuwan Thushara with a sizzling boundary on the leg side in the first ball of the fifth over of the innings.

After a couple of singles off the next two balls, the LSG opener cleared the fence above deep backward square leg for a huge six and flogged two more boundaries to finish with a 20-run over.

KL Rahul was eventually dismissed by his opposite number Hardik Pandya a while later with a 22-ball 28 to his name.

Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians charted 144-7 from 20 overs after they were put into bat first. Nehal Wadhera top-scored in the innings for the visitors through a fluent 46 while Tim David bashed an unbeaten 18-ball 35 at the death.

Among LSG bowlers, Mohsin Khan picked up two wickets including the prized scalp of Rohit Sharma. 

Marcus Stoinis, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi also assisted with timely breakthroughs throughout the Mumbai Indians innings.
