Rishabh Pant will captain Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The DC management confirmed to Cricbuzz that Pant, who had a horrific car accident last December, will make his much-anticipated return to professional cricket as a leader of the franchise.

Earlier, there were news that Pant would be playing as an ‘Impact Player’ for the Delhi-based franchise, as he is yet to fully recover. However, with his captaincy news now appearing, he will stay out on the field while his team bowls for sure.

According to management representatives, Pant, 26, is expected to be fully recovered by the end of February. He is presently receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. However, in order for him to participate and keep wickets behind the stumps in every IPL match in the upcoming edition, the NCA managers must approve.

Pant was sorely missed for the entire 2023 Indian Premier League. David Warner took charge of them while he was away, but his team finished ninth in the standings, having only managed to win five out of 14 matches.

Apart from Pant, DC only have Abishek Porel in their squad among wicket-keepers. They have released Phil Salt, and hence, plenty of reports emerged that they would go for another option if required in the upcoming auction, scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 19. However, as things stand, it is not their priority, although they must still sign one for safety.
