India star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is on the verge of creating history as he steps into the second Test match against England at Edgbaston. After an outstanding show in the first Test at Headingley, Pant is now just one century away from joining an elite list of cricket legends.

Rishabh Pant Eyes Historic Feat in 2nd Test Vs England

In the first Test, Rishabh Pant made headlines by becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test match. He smashed 134 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a classy 118 in the second. With this achievement, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in the world to score two hundreds in a single Test.

Now, in the second Test, Pant has a golden opportunity. If he scores another century in the first innings of the second Test, the star batter will become the first Indian batter to score three consecutive centuries and the seventh visiting batter to achieve this feat in as many Test matches in England.

Only one Indian has done this before, the legendary Rahul Dravid in 2002. Other greats who have achieved this milestone include Sir Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, and Daryl Mitchell.

India Fail To Win Despite Rishabh Pant's Twin Century

Notably, Rishabh Pant’s love affair with English conditions isn’t new. He had earlier played a brilliant knock of 146 in 2022 during India’s tour. With that, his recent 134 and 118 in Headingley make it two back-to-back Test hundreds in England. If he continues this form and gets a third in Edgbaston, he’ll enter record books once again.

In the first Test, Pant formed two crucial partnerships, a 209-run stand with captain Shubman Gill, and another key partnership with KL Rahul. However, despite Pant’s heroics with the bat, India couldn’t win the match. The bowlers failed to defend a big target of 371 runs, and Ben Duckett’s 149 guided England to a stunning victory.

Meanwhile, India pace attack, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, lacked impact. Fielding errors also hurt the team, and England now leads the five-match series 1-0.
