Ricky Ponting, who is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time, enthralled the cricketing community with his sublime batting and sharp captaincy for close to two decades. One of the many wonderful aspects of Ponting's illustrious career was his ability to score centuries across different formats of the game. From Test matches to One Day Internationals (ODIs), Ponting's consistency and hunger for runs knew no bounds.

Ricky Ponting's century trail: From Headingley to Adelaide

The Australian made his international debut for Australia in 1995 and went on to represent his country for over 17 years. He played a staggering 168 Test matches, 375 ODIs, and 17 T20Is and scored runs galore to cement his name in cricketing folklore.

In Test cricket, Ponting's ability to dominate bowlers is evident in his colossal tally of 41 centuries. His first Test hundred came against England at Headingley in 1997, where he announced himself on the international stage with a magnificent 127. Over the course of his career, Ponting went on to score centuries against all major cricketing nations, including England, South Africa, India, and Pakistan.

His highest Test score of 257 not out came against India in the 2003-2004 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. That knock showcased Ponting's flawless technique, mental toughness, and a variety of strokes. He was a master of playing both pace and spin, and his ability to adapt to different conditions made him a nightmare for opposition bowlers.

In the ODI format, Ponting's record is equally remarkable. He registered an incredible 30 centuries in 375 matches, making him the second-highest century scorer in ODIs at the time of his retirement. His first ODI hundred came in his ninth match against Sri Lanka in 1996.

Ponting's highest ODI score of 164 came against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006. He had the remarkable knack of converting his starts into big scores, often taking the game away from the opposition which is why he is considered as one of the greatest to play the sport.
