India Women crashed to a defeat in their Commonwealth Games 2022 opener against Australia Women yesterday.

The Women in Blue managed to set a target of 155 for the Aussies, but they could not defend their modest total in the end. The Aussies chased down the target with an over to spare.

Renuka Singh reflects on her devastating spell

Indian Women pacer Renuka Singh put on a bowling masterclass for her side but it was not enough to guide the team to a win against Australia.

Singh returned with figures of 4-18 from her four overs and she managed to pick up the crucial wickets of Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Meg Lanning and Tahlia McGrath.

The bowler outlined the rigorous fitness work that has been put in behind the scenes and how it helped her improve (via NewIndianExpress).

"I've been working on my fitness for the past month. We had a dedicated fitness camp, and I've worked on speed, agility and endurance. I'm a fast bowler so those are really important skills. That has helped me a lot."

Australia's composure and maturity shone through

Despite the top order being rattled by the destructive bowling from Renuka Singh, the Aussies managed to keep calm and keep the scoreboard ticking at the asking rate.

Ashleigh Gardner and Grace Harris chipped in with vital contributions of 52* and 37 respectively to guide the side home.

Meanwhile, India Women will look to bounce back against arch-rivals Pakistan in their next outing on the 31st of July.
