West Indies skipper blames lacklustre bowling for the defeat to India

West Indies were handed a comprehensive defeat by India in the first T20I of the five-match series yesterday.

India managed to set a mammoth target of 191 runs for the hosts but West Indies crumbled with the bat and were restricted to just 122 from their quota of 20 overs.

Nicholas Pooran rues poor bowling

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran has outlined the poor bowling from his side as the major reason behind the defeat.

The West Indies bowlers were taken to the cleaners by the likes of Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik.

As per Pooran, the bowlers consistently failed to hit the desired line and length during the course of India's innings and they were deservedly punished by a world class batting unit.

In addition, Pooran believes (via News18) that the Windies would have fancied a chase of 170, if they had bowled better.

“In 18 overs, it was 150, we were indisciplined and we paid the price and the guys know that. 190 was always going to be challenging. We got a good start but the batters did not carry on. We lost wickets every time we had some momentum and that cost us. We had already lost four wickets in the first 10 overs and that cost us the game. In hindsight when you look at it, the spinners did bowl well. Out mind-set was to restrict them to 170-180, with the extra all-rounder, we would have been able to chase it."

Pooran eyeing a comeback

West Indies have vowed to come back strongly against India in the next game. Pooran has revealed that the players are very hurt with the way they were humbled in the first game and they will look to put on a stronger show in their next outing.
