Matthew Renshaw is content to be Queensland's 'middle-order' batter

Australia batter Matthew Renshaw enjoyed an extraordinary county season while playing for Somerset. Featuring in eight matches of Division One, Renshaw scored 620 runs, decorated with two tons.

In the 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup, albeit starting as an opener, Renshaw's best came at the No. 4 position as he recorded a 102-ball 120 against Middlesex.

Although an opening position could soon lie vacant in the Australian Test team with David Warner and Usman Khawaja at the fag end of their careers, Renshaw is not seeing it as an opportunity and thinks that he can fit in his state side at any position.

"Over the last couple years having batted in that middle-order for Queensland and being quite successful, I feel like I can fit in the side at any point," Renshaw said in cricket.com.au's The Unplayable Podcast.

"I know that if I bat in the middle-order I'm quite strong against spin and if I'm opening the batting I can deal with the new ball as well so I'm not really too fussed about where I bat," he added.

Renshaw also spoke on Somerset's decision of choosing him as an opener

"They needed an opener, so it fit me to go back to the top. It was a little bit strange at the start having not opened for a couple of years, but I enjoy the challenge of facing the new ball especially early in April and there's a few little sticky green wickets where you knew a ball might have your name on it," he stated.
