With the exhilarating ODI World Cup 2023 around the corner, cricketing circles are abuzz with predictions. The latest to weigh in is former South African all-rounder, Jacques Kallis.

Kallis foresees Buttler dominating World Cup 2023 run-scoring charts

Kallis has tipped England's swashbuckling skipper, Jos Buttler, to steal the limelight as the tournament's highest run-scorer in Indian conditions.

The reigning champions are gearing up to defend their title in this cricket carnival, running from October 5 to November 19. Their thrilling victory in 2019, clinched on the boundary count rule against New Zealand at the Lord’s is still afresh in every cricket lover's mind.

England is once again set to rekindle their rivalry as they start their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 5 in the tournament opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In a recent interaction on ICC’s official Instagram page, Kallis was quizzed about his top batting performer for the upcoming extravaganza. In response, he stated that Buttler has a strong chance of becoming the top run-scorer in the upcoming cricket tournament.

Despite being an unconventional choice, Kallis is confident in Buttler's performance in the Indian conditions and foresees a successful World Cup for the England team. The veteran all-rounder further emphasized that Buttler could be the standout player during the tournament.

“I think Jos Buttler will be the leading run-scorer. Outside call, but I fancy him in those conditions along with England having a good World Cup. I think he’s going to be the one guy that stands out,” said Kallis.

Buttler has played in 17 World Cup matches, managing 453 runs at an average of 34.84, which includes a century. With the world's gaze fixed on the high-octane tournament, all eyes will be on the England captain and his troops to see if they can defend their title.
