Rayon Griffith appointed as head coach of Guyana Amazon Warriors

Guyana Amazon Warriors have announced the appointment of Rayon Griffith, as their head coach for the 2022 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL)


Griffith had also served as the head coach of Warriors in the 2021 edition and spent the 2018 to 2020 seasons as an assistant coach. 


The 43-year-old is currently the fielding coach of the West Indies Senior Men’s team. 


Griffith was also influential in helping Guyana secure five successive title victories in the first-class circuit, with the last one being in 2019. 


He played in 22 First-class and as many List A matches from 1999 to 2005, and scalped a total of 78 wickets. 


Griffith hopes for a fantastic season


"It is truly a privilege to continue with the Guyana Amazon Warriors, this time in the capacity of head coach. I am overjoyed that the franchise has decided to appoint me in this role,” said Griffith. 


“This franchise holds a special place in my heart and working along with them has been a remarkable experience. I have no doubt this season will be nothing short of fantastic.”


Guyana Amazon Warriors Squad for CPL 2022


In CPL 2022 Drafts, the Warriors snapped up the likes of Imran Tahir and Tabraiz Shamsi to bolster their spin attack. In terms of batting, experienced Colin Ingram, Heinrich Klaasen, and Paul Stirling are the fresh recruits for the franchise. 


Shimron Hetmyer, Odean Smith, Romario Shepherd, and Chandrapaul Hemraj were the four players retained by the Warriors.

The 10th edition of the tournament will be played from 31 August to 30 September. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots secured their first title in 2021 and are the defending champions.
