South African batter Rassie van der Dussen will miss the remainder of the ongoing three-match Test series due to a finger injury.

The middle-order batter will return home due to a fracture of his left index finger. Rassie sustained the injury while fielding on the opening day, but continued on in the match, even scoring 41 in Proteas' second innings in an innings and 85-run defeat to England in the second Test at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Despite being injured in England's first innings with the bat, Rassie put up a brave fight alongside Keegan Petersen on day three at Old Trafford but was dismissed by Ben Stokes after tea as England cruised to an innings win.

CSA confirms Rassie's injury

Cricket South Africa on Saturday (August 27) confirmed that Rassie will not be taking any further part in the series which is currently levelled at 1-1 with one game to go starting on September 8 at the Kia Oval in London.

"Proteas batter Rassie van der Dussen has been ruled out for the remainder of the Test series against England due to a fracture of his left index finger," stated a CSA release.

The board further said that Van der Dussen will return to South Africa to consult a finger specialist, who will then guide him on further medical management.

Mulder added to the squad

South Africa have drafted Wiaan Mulder into the squad as Rassie's replacement as the all-rounder is currently in England and will link up with the squad before the third and final Test of the series. The all-rounder has been in good form for Leicestershire in the County Championship with six half-centuries and two centuries in his last 11 innings which includes a double hundred as well.

South Africa have Ryan Rickelton and Khaya Zondo in their ranks as reserve batters in the Test squad. Both the batters will be in consideration for the decider Test alongside Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen. Rickelton is most likely to come in Rassie's place in the playing XI.
