Afghanistan spin wizard Rashid Khan achieved yet another milestone as he became the second highest wicket-taker in the history of T20 Internationals after taking three wickets against Bangladesh on Tuesday, August 30.

The right-arm spinner took his wicket tally to 115 wickets in the quickest format of the game at the international stage. He eclipsed New Zealand fast bowling sensation Tim Southee to achieve this landmark.

Rashid Khan led the bowling attack from the front with his three-for as Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh were restricted to 127 for 7 in 20 overs after they opted to bat first in their first match of the multinational tournament.

The leggie is now trailing Shakib Al-Hasan, who currently has 122 T20I wickets to his name and is the leading wicket-taker in T20Is.

Most Wickets In T20Is:

  • Shakib Al Hasan: 122 wickets in 100 matches

  • Tim Southee: 114 wickets in 95 matches
  • Lasith Malinga: 107 wickets in 84 matches
  • Ish Sodhi: 99 wickets in 76 matches

Rashid Khan has emerged as one of the best leg-spinners the cricketing world has witnessed in recent times. Making his international debut back in 2015, the ace spinner has come a long way.

The 23-year-old holds the record of the fastest 100 T20I wickets as he achieved the landmark in just 53 T20Is. He also holds the record for the most wickets by a spinner in the history of T20, with 472 wickets, and is only behind Dwayne Bravo, who leads the tally with 604 wickets.

As far as the match is concerned, Afghanistan thrashed Bangladesh by seven wickets on Tuesday in their second fixture and became the first team to qualify for the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup.
