Afghanistan has repeatedly proven themselves to be a rising power in cricket recently. Another testament to their developing cricket skills was their performance in the Men's Emerging Asia Cup 2024. They defeated the Sri Lanka A team in the tournament's final to win the second edition. 

The success was a momentous occasion for the cricket-crazy nation. The importance of the event was noticeable in a video posted by the Afghan superstar, Rashid Khan, on his Instagram handle. In the video, the whole Afghanistan senior team celebrated the A team's winning moments. Even the head coach of the Afghanistan team, Jonathon Trott, was seen enjoying the achievement of the youngsters. 



Afghanistan created history by defeating Sri Lanka A in the final of the Emerging Asia Cup 2024

Notably, Afghanistan defeated one of the major favourites, India, to reach the summit clash of the tournament. In the final, Afghanistan fielded first and restricted Sri Lanka to a moderate total of 133/7 in 20 overs. Sahan Arachhige was the only batter who fought hard for Sri Lanka. The Southpaw played a resilient knock of 64 runs from 47 deliveries and took the team to a competitive score. Bilal Sami was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan, taking three wickets and 22 runs in his four overs.

The chase was led by the new Afghan batting star, Sediqullah Atal. The opener played a steady and composed knock of 55 runs from 55 balls and guided the team towards a memorable win. All-rounder Karim Janat played a valuable knock of 33 runs off 27 deliveries as Afghanistan chased the target in 18.1 overs, losing only three wickets. 

As Afghanistan A won the trophy, the senior team members who were watching the match together celebrated the occasion and congratulated the youngsters.
