Ranji Trophy 2022 | Sarfaraz Khan slams fourth ton; Twitteratti demands for India call-up

Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan has been unstoppable in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2021-22 season.

Khan's 134-run knock on Day two of the Ranji final against Madhya Pradesh helped Mumbai accumulate 374 runs in their first innings.

The knock was the 24-year-old's fourth ton this season and eighth overall in First-Class cricket. After achieving the landmark at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, the Mumbai lad was reduced to tears.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of his celebration on Twitter. The fans have urged the Indian selection committee to take note of his performances and call him up for national duties.

This season, the former RCB player scored one triple hundred, two double hundreds, one hundred and four fifties, amounting to 946 runs at an unbelievable average of 135.14.

Khan joins Ajay Sharma (1033 & 993) and Wasim Jaffer (1260 &1037) as the only two players to notch over 900+ runs across two Ranji seasons.

Since the last Ranji Trophy season in 2020-21, the right-hander has scored 1,865 runs at an average of 143.46, including seven centuries and four half-centuries.

Sarfaraz, who has represented India at the Under-19 level in the 2014 World Cup, was picked up by RCB during the 2015 IPL auction. However, his lack of fitness led him to lose a place in the XI, and he was eventually released in 2019.

Since then, he has had stints with the Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings, and the Delhi Capitals, where he currently plays.

It will be interesting to see if selectors reward Sarfaraz with an India call-up, given India have hardly any Tests scheduled until the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November.

At the time of publishing, Madhya Pradesh were 21 for no loss, with Yash Dubey and Himanshu Mantri batting at 8* and 12* runs, respectively.

Mumbai were bundled out for 374 right after lunch as Yadav claimed his fourth wicket in the form of Sarfaraz.
