Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah to play for Leicestershire in the warm-up against India

Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna are all set to play for Leicestershire in the warm-up match against Rohit Sharma-led India.

The visiting Indians take on County side Leicestershire in their only warm-up game ahead of the one-off Test against England at Edgbaston. The four-day match will begin today (June 23rd) at Grace Road in Leicester.

Both India and Leicestershire have announced their squads for the warm-up game. Four members of the Indian team, Rishabh Pant, Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, will represent the county side, which Sam Evans will captain.

Rohit Sharma will lead India as they look to gain some much-needed match fitness ahead of the Birmingham Test.

In a statement released by the Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC), it was said: "Leicestershire CCC will welcome members from the India touring party into their side for tomorrow's four-day tour match at Uptonsteel County Ground. India superstars Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, will all team up with the Leicestershire squad, captained by opening batsman Sam Evans. LCCC, BCCI and the ECB have all agreed to allow the four players from the visiting camp to be part of the Running Foxes side, in order to allow all members of the travelling party to participate in the fixture (subject to fitness). The match will be played with 13 players per side to provide further flexibility and help manage bowling workloads."

LCCC CEO Sean Jarvis expressed his delight over the club hosting the Indian team.

"India bring a magical feeling to Grace Road. During their training sessions here you can feel the buzz already. We are extremely excited to be welcoming some of the world's best Test players and having a truly festival atmosphere with the support of the diverse Leicestershire community. It will be a great experience for our squad, especially players like Rehan Ahmed, to play against Virat Kohli and India's huge talents. We are sure both teams will benefit from the four days," he said.

The Indian selection committee have included Navdeep Saini, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Simarjeet Singh as the net bowlers. Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to meet up with the squad soon after recovering from Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Indian T20I squad led by Hardik Pandya jetted off to Ireland for a two-match series on Thursday morning.

India and England will face off in the much-awaited one-off Test on July 1st.
