Rangpur clinch rare championship double; win NCL after T20 silverware

Rangpur Division crushed Khulna Division by seven wickets in match number 28 of the 2025 National Cricket League. Chasing 231 for a win on Day 3 at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Rangpur number three Iqbal Hosen punched out a scintillating 114* from just 170 balls with nine fours and three sixes.

With Sylhet Division simultaneously holding out Barishal Division for a draw in Rajshahi, the Rangpur Division team has now been crowned the NCL champions for the 2025-26 season.

Rangpur win NCL with Iqbal Hosen’s century

Bangladesh’s Rangpur Division team, under the leadership of Akbar Ali, defeated Khulna Division inside three days in match 28 of the NCL 2025-26 season. However, the Rangpur team had to wait one more day to be crowned NCL winners, when the match between defending champions Sylhet Division and Barishal Division in Rajshahi turned out to be a draw.

Rangpur eventually concluded their NCL 2025-26 campaign with 31 points, stemming from three wins, a solitary defeat and three draws from seven matches. The next best side on the eight-team points table, Sylhet Division finished second with 28 points from as many outings.

Chasing 231, Iqbal Hosen struck a courageous 114* from 170 balls in the fourth innings and notched up the winning runs together alongside captain Akbar Ali.

The outcome marked Rangpur’s first red-ball title since winning the 2022-23 edition of the tournament.

A couple of months ago, Rangpur also won the NCL T20 trophy 2025 by defeating runners-up Khulna Division in a lop-sided final in Sylhet. The Rangpur Division also won the 2024 T20 trophy to lift the limited-overs title twice in succession.

With a T20 and a red-ball title in the bag, the Rangpur team has now sealed a remarkable domestic championship double, underscoring their status as Bangladesh’s standout force across formats this season.
