Legendary Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has penned a heartfelt tribute for his childhood friend Shamsur Rahman Shuvo. Shamsur, aged 37, recently announced his retirement from first-class cricket.
The right-handed batter turned up for the Barishal Division in match number 25 of the Bangladesh Cricket League 2025 against Sylhet Division in Rajshahi between December 6 and December 9. As it turned out, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo failed to go big in his farewell game, aggregating scores of just 11 and 17 across both innings.
Mushfiqur Rahim recalls early journey with outbound Shuvo
On Tuesday, December 9, Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim took to his Facebook account and penned an emotional retirement note for outbound batter and childhood friend Shamsur Rahman Shuvo. In his post, Rahim reflected their cricketing journey together through Under-19, academy and international levels for Bangladesh.
Mushfiqur Rahim wrote:
“We began our journey together in 2000 at BKSP, and from there shared the field across Under-19, High Performance, academy and national teams. Alhamdulillah, it has been a blessing to play alongside you for more than 25 years. Shuvo, congratulations on an outstanding First-Class career as you step into retirement. You are a great cricketer, a trusted friend and an even finer human being. Best wishes for your next chapter, dost [friend].”
Shamsur Rahman Shuvo had a brief international career for Bangladesh between 2013 and 2014. While the cricketer played six Tests, 10 ODIs and nine T20Is during the period, he made his international debut in each of the three formats under the leadership of Mushfiqur Rahim.
Shuvo ended up retiring as one of the most experienced first-class batters in modern history, having towed 9,602 runs in 160 matches at an average of 36.23.
