  • Rahul Dravid Wary Of Englands Resurgence Ahead Of The 5Th Test Vs India

Rahul Dravid wary of England's resurgence ahead of the 5th Test vs India

It's just a one-off Test at Edgbaston, but its importance is not lost on legendary Indian cricketer and current head coach Rahul Dravid, who has outlined that crucial WTC points are at stake and a rare series win is in the offing for his team.

India will lock horns with England in the rescheduled fifth Test of the Pataudi Trophy in Birmingham between July 01-05.

The Men in Blue are currently leading the series 2-1, but a lot has changed since their 157-run win at the Oval last summer.

Both India and England have undergone leadership changes since, with Dravid and Rohit replacing Shastri and Virat at the helm. Meanwhile, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have replaced the duo of Joe Root and Chris Silverwood.

Unlike last summer, England is a far more confident outfit following their consecutive wins over New Zealand in the ongoing series, and Dravid understands that.

Speaking to the Times of India after linking up with the squad in England, Dravid admitted that the visitors would have to be at the peak of their powers to overcome a resurgent English team.

"In terms of the Test match, it's going to be exciting for us. It is just a one-off Test match, but WTC points and series are on the line, and guys who played a part in it will want to do well and are looking forward to that. England is playing well at the moment, and it is going to be a bit different from last year when England was probably a little bit on the back foot," said Dravid.

"They have played some good games and we have a pretty good side as well. Hopefully, we will have a good match," Dravid added.

Dravid returns to a country where he achieved some of his greatest moments as a batsman and as captain.

He made his debut at Lord's in 1996, and over the course of the next four tours, the right-hander enjoyed great success as India's No.3.

The former batsman also led India to a historic Test series win in England back in 2007, and he will be looking to replicate that feat as a coach next month.

"It is always lovely to play Test matches in England. The crowd is going to be fantastic, and they are good when you play Test cricket there. I loved playing Test cricket (in England). I love coaching in Test cricket and look forward to it," he added.

India will play a four-day practice game against Leicestershire Foxes between June 24-27 before the final Test commences at Edgbaston on July 01.
