Afghanistan stunned Pakistan by eight wickets in their latest World Cup 2023 shootout in Chennai to catapult themselves to number six on the points table. Emboldened by their win over defending champions England last week, nearly each of Afghanistan’s frontline spinners came to the fore before top four batters chipped in with crucial runs in their monumental run-chase.

Indian badminton star PV Sindhu, who is currently preparing for the upcoming French Open, seems to have found some time from her busy schedule to catch Afghanistan’s all-out spin assault over their continental rivals. Just few minutes after witnessing the 2023 World Cup thriller, the 28-year-old athlete took to X (formerly Twitter) and cautioned fellow competing teams of the tournament to be wary of Afghanistan’s spin insurgence.

PV Sindhu hails Afghanistan’s ‘batting maturity’

Afghanistan’s 18-year-old star and World Cup debutant Noor Ahmad struck thrice in his 10-over spell, and was assisted by handy run-containment from Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan from the other end. The trio dished out much of the damage to Pakistan’s strong batting line-up before death-overs flourish lifted them up to a competitive 282-7.

PV Sindhu praised Afghanistan for putting up a spin spectacle against Pakistan upfront and cautioned fellow World Cup 2023 competing teams to be wary of their spinners. She wrote:

“Every team needs to worry when they play against Afghanistan. They have the spinners to trouble any lineup and players who prioritize the team before anything else.”

Sindhu also hailed Afghanistan’s courageous run-chase approach against the Asian giants, which featured half-centuries from Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmat Shah and a crucial 48* from captain Hashmatullah Shahidi.

Notably, this is not the first instance PV Sindhu has expressed her opinion over cricketing matters. The French Open bound star seems to be an avid follower of the sport, as she has repeatedly expressed her admiration for Indian batting legend Virat Kohli.

Moreover, Sindhu also acknowledged Australian opener David Warner’s move of batting right-handed during a series in India last month.
