According to official reports, the “Prince” of Indian Cricket, Shubman Gill, has been appointed as the ambassador for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The talented right-handed batter will serve as the "State Icon" for the state of Punjab. The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab, Sibin C, bestowed this honor upon the player.

Speaking to the media, Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab highlighted that Shubman Gill is one of the most popular youth icons in the state. The decision to designate him as the ambassador for the Lok Sabha elections is aimed at increasing voter turnout in Punjab, which has historically witnessed low voter participation.

The Election Commission hopes to achieve a voter turnout of more than 70% in the upcoming 2024 elections by engaging influential figures like Shubman Gill.

Before the appointment of Shubman Gill as the "State Icon," Punjabi singer Tarsem Jassar was also designated as the "State Icon" with the aim of boosting voter turnout. The Electoral Commission office is operating under the campaign slogan "Is Vaar 70 Paar," emphasizing the goal of surpassing the 70% voter turnout mark in the upcoming elections.
