The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly reacted to the report of the World Cricketers Association (WCA). The WCA, previously named the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA), is a global players body in cricket.
As stated by WCA on their official website, the body collectively represents the players across the majority of top cricket playing countries at global level.
While WCA claims to be representing the players, the ICC has shrugged off the label. Moreover, the ICC has also stated that they represent the cricket boards of their respective countries.
ICC gives ultimatum of WCA
The ICC members have conveyed a strong message to the report of the WCA. A member said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a firm stand in the Chief Executives Meeting (CEC), as recently conducted in Zimbabwe, which was unanimously backed by other members of the CEC.
The executives believe that players all over the world can either choose to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) or be a part of the WCA. The official also questioned the existence of the WCA, asking how did this body come into picture when the players themselves represent their respective cricket boards.
One of the concerns raised by the WCA in their report was regarding the revenue sharing model between the cricket boards. It is worth noting that the BCCI alone pockets 38.5 percent of the entire revenue.
A veteran administrator has responded that the ICC does not need to discuss the revenue model with anyone, and the model itself was agreed upon by all the members.
The administrator also pointed out that the BCCI brings in the most money to the table, and it is only logical that the Indian board receives a bigger share in return.
