People hardly gave us chance, we proved them wrong, says Wade as Aus win first T20 WC title

Australia won their first-ever T20 World Cup on the back of some brilliant batting performances by David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. They beat New Zealand in a comprehensive manner by eight wickets.

But before winning the final, they had a semi-final that was one of the toughest wins and the two heroes from that match, Matthe Wade, although weren’t required here. But they were very chuffed about the victory.

Speaking in a post-match interview with Ian Bishop, Stoinis said, “Can't believe this [winning this World Cup]. We love each other, I'm so proud of this team.” He further went on to praise Marsh, his Western Australia buddy. “You won't find bigger supporters of Mitch Marsh than us and his family,” said Stoinis.

On the other hand, Mathew Wade, the man who won them the semi-final and was the Player of the match there said that people didn’t Australia any chance by tit is huge for them.

"This is huge for us. People hardly gave us a chance, but we have proven them wrong. I am so proud of our performance. The partnership with Stoinis in the semis changed everything,” he said.

“Can't just say that it was my innings. We are the first team to win a T20 World Cup for Australia and we are proud of this achievement,” added the wicketkeeper batter.

Starc, Cummins heap praise on Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa for successful T20 World Cup campaign

Australia were not the favourite to win the T20 World Cup and a lot of that can be contributed to their performances in the format in the recent past and Mitchell Starc was not dismissive of their past. Starc said that the current level of performance is the closes they always aspired to produce and credited the win to players’ bonding. “It's not been an ideal lead up. But this is the closest the guys were and it has shown in the way we played our cricket. Different guys in different games and the closeness with the guys has taken us through,” Starc said. He was also highly appreciative of the leg spinner Adam Zampa, who has been one of the most crucial elements of Australia’s success in the tournament. “Zampa has been the best bowler by far in the white ball over the last two years. We know how to bowl around him. The bowling group just know our roles a lot clearer,” Starc added. Starc’s partner Pat Cummins, who was at his best with the ball in the final was ridging o high emotions and could not sink the historic moment. He also credited his IPL performance and the third pacer in the Australian team—Josh Hazlewood for their dream run to the championship. “Pretty pumped. Once we go back home it will sink in. A lot of support back home, they've gotten up at 1 am. It's a good thing to play some IPL here. Even Hazlewood was able to adapt quickly because of that,” Cummins said.
