Mitchell Marsh leads Australia to their maiden T20 World Cup championship

Mitchell Marsh played the innings of his life and put the New Zealand bowling attack on the sword to win Australia their first T20 World Cup in Dubai. He remained unbeaten on 77 runs and burst out in tears after Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs.

Australia were never out of the game in the chase of 173 runs although they lost their captain early. Marsh was in the mood from the word go and punished Adam Milne with six and two fours to announce his arrival on the big stage of a World Cup final. He attacked the NZ bowled attack with brutal pull shots that took out the field on several occasions of the game. Coach Justin Langer speaking after the game spoke highly of the impact that Marsh had on the side and hailed him as the ‘missing piece of the puzzle.’ Langer spoke highly of the player whose career has been marred with injuries with many believing that the younger Marsh will never do justice to his talents.

On the night, Marsh punished the  NZ bowling attack with his brutal assault and it seemed like he always had an extra second to watch the ball.

The World Cup caps off his exceptional year where he has had tremendous success in the overseas conditions of West Indies and Bangladesh. He was the shining star in the Australian team who had lost all their short format series on the bounce while coming into the World Cup.
