One bad game doesn’t make us a bad team: Nicholas Pooran

Ahead of the second T20 International against India, West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran has backed his team to come back stronger. The Caribbean nation flattened in the first T20I by 68 runs.

It was a disastrous batting performance by the host. They ended up scoring only 122 runs while chasing the big total of 190 runs. No West Indies batter scored more than 20 runs to put up a good fight.

However, Pooran is not demotivated by the loss. The skipper is hoping for a fightback from his team on Monday.  The team has already lost the three-match ODI series against India by 0-3. They now have only the remaining four T20 Internationals to save their pride at home.

West Indies ready to bounce back stronger on Monday

“Games will happen like this, and we have to put our hands up and say we were outplayed,” Pooran said on the eve of the 2nd contest.

“One bad game doesn’t make us a bad team. I have no doubt we’re going to bounce back in this series and continue to play entertaining cricket.”

He also believes that his team hasn’t played many games together. West Indies finally had their main playing XI available against India as Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Holder made a comeback to the team.

A lot of hopes were pinned on the two hard-hitters but the fans were met with disappointment. Holder bagged a four-ball duck in the match while Hetmyer scored 14 runs off 15 balls.

“For me, it’s just about batsmen getting starts. When we do get a start, it’s just for us to carry on – find a way to carry on and make it count.

“We knew something like this was going to happen. Unfortunately, it had to be the first game in Trinidad, but we know as a team, we’re going to bounce back.”
