Ollie Robinson returns from injury to face Nottinghamshire

England Test Seamer Ollie Robinson is all set to mark his return to action at Trent Bridge on Tuesday (July 26th) after being ruled out of action for the last two months.

The match between Sussex and New Zealand was the last game Robinson played this summer. After that he was supposed to play for the County Select XI against the Black Caps but he had to pull out of the four-day match due to an injury.

The 28-year-old felt a stiffness in his back during the warm-up before the start of play. The saga continued as he tested positive for Covid-19, which forced him into isolation and delayed the recovery of his back injury.

Robinson, who took 28 wickets at an average of 19.61 last summer, has failed to make any Test match appearance for England this summer. He has failed to remain fit and do justice to his talent by being out of action most of the time. After doing well in the first three Tests in Australia, Robinson is yet to turn out in any red-ball matches since the fifth Ashes Test in Hobart.

He was supposed to lead England’s bowling attack in the absence of Anderson and Broad in the Caribbean, but he failed to play a single Test of that series and returned home due to a recurrence of his back spasms.

In addition he was further forced to miss most of the Championship matches for Sussex this summer. He could manage only two matches against Middlesex and Leicestershire.

Robinson is now ready to make his return and will play some red-ball cricket to prove his fitness ahead of the South Africa series starting next month. Sussex will be playing against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in their next championship game. They will be without the likes of Jofra Archer, Henry Crocombe, Jamie Atkins and George Garton due to injuries.

Robinson will be joined by two debutants from last week, Brad Currie and Ari Karvelas, both of whom joined the club on month long trial contracts.

England already have a bunch of pacers down and out due to injuries. If Robinson can prove his fitness and make his return into the Test side, it will be a big boost to the Stokes-led England side, which has won the last four Test matches played against New Zealand and India.
