ECB not fit for purpose: Azeem Rafiq stands against racism

Former Yorkshire cricketer Azeem Rafiq who came out publicly against the England & Wales Cricket Board last year due to racism incidents, has issued another statement on the matter. Rafiq made serious allegations against the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, which led to the resignation of the entire board.

Rafiq disappointed with ECB’s conduct

Rafiq has now made another revelation against ECB, claiming they need to revamp the way they operate. He said he wasn’t satisfied with how things had panned out and the only way forward is structural change.

“The ECB is not fit for purpose, simple as that. We need a total clear-out. I said in January that the ECB needs a reset of its morals and values, and I firmly believe that nothing has changed. Cricket is too much of a boys’ network: we need structural change. We need government to get involved, and an independent regulator, because the game can’t be trusted to regulate itself,”

He also mentioned that the English management is only looking for excuses, which is humiliating.

“We’re coming up to two years since I spoke out, and where we find the game, I think it’s embarrassing. The system always looks for excuses not to take action,” he concluded.
