South Africa made a good turnaround on Day 1 of the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch after suffering a thumping defeat in the first encounter earlier. Batting first, the Proteas got off to an impressive start with openers Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee putting up a partnership of 111 runs for the first wicket.

Elgar was removed by Tim Southee for 41 while Erwee continued with his form and notched up a century during the course eventually. He was joined by Aiden Markram after Elgar's departure and the two batters then stitched a stand of 88 runs for the second wicket.

The visitors then lost a couple of wickets in quick succession with both Markram and Erwee being sent back in the hut. While Markram was out for 42, Erweek scored 108.

South Africa were 238/3 with Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen unbeaten at the crease. Tim Southee, Matt Henry and Neil Wagner scalped a wicket each for the New Zealand.

The hosts lead the two-match series 1-0 after the Blackcaps won the first game by an innings and 276 runs.

The important thing for me where I was erring was about rotating the strikes, and taking singles,” he said. “Obviously he has helped me out in those areas, especially when I’m batting at the nets. He keeps telling me to try how to rotate the strike. ‘You can hit anyway, but it’s about rotating the strike and keeping the bowlers under pressure’, he would say,” he added. India took 1-0 lead in the series after defeating Sri Lanka convincingly by 62 runs. The hosts posted 199/2 in 20 overs and then restricted to visitors for 137/6.

In an exciting first eliminator clash between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2022, the Islamabad side showed nerves of steel and stole away a win to stay alive in the competition and make a place for themselves in the second eliminator. Chasing a target of 170 in 20 overs, the United side rode on a fine piece of batting from Alex Hales first and then Azam Khan who chipped in with crucial runs. Islamabad United won by 5 wickets and three balls to spare. Salman Irshad was the pick of the bowlers for Zalmi as he troubled the batters with his Yorkers and scalped three wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs. Earlier, in the day, Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik showed their experience and notched up individual fifties to help the side put 169/5 on the board in 20 overs. Hasan Ali bagged a three-for for 30 runs in 4 overs. Islamabad will now play Lahore Qalandars in the second eliminator on Friday in Lahore and the winner of this game will lock horns with Multan Sultans in the final at the same venue on Sunday.
