PSL 2022 | Islamabad United hold nerves to clinch win & stay alive in competition

In an exciting first eliminator clash between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2022, the Islamabad side showed nerves of steel and stole away a win to stay alive in the competition and make a place for themselves in the second eliminator.

Chasing a target of 170 in 20 overs, the United side rode on a fine piece of batting from Alex Hales first and then Azam Khan who chipped in with crucial runs. Hales scored 62 off 49 while Azam struck a 22-ball 28.

The United team needed 10 off the final over with Azam on strike and Howell with the ball in his hands. The bowler trapped Khan in front of the stumps on the very first delivery bringing down the equation to 10 required off 5 deliveries.

Liam Dawson then walked out to bat in the middle and he finished off the game in style hitting a maximum on the second ball and following it with a boundary on the third of the over. Islamabad United won by 5 wickets and three balls to spare.

Salman Irshad was the pick of the bowlers for Zalmi as he troubled the batters with his Yorkers and scalped three wickets for 31 runs in 4 overs.

Earlier, in the day, Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik showed their experience and notched up individual fifties to help the side put 169/5 on the board in 20 overs. Hasan Ali bagged a three-for for 30 runs in 4 overs.

“We didn't bowl according to the plan and also sloppy in the field. The total was defendable,” Wahab said after the match.

Islamabad will now play Lahore Qalandars in the second eliminator on Friday in Lahore and the winner of this game will lock horns with Multan Sultans in the final at the same venue on Sunday.

IND vs SL | 1st T20: Ishan Kishan, bowlers give India comprehensive win against Sri Lanka

An emphatic all-round show from India handed them a comprehensive win in the first T20I against Sri Lanka by 62 runs in Lucknow. Chasing a mammoth target of 200 runs in 20 overs, the Lankan side was restricted to 137/6. The visitors had a dismal start to the chase as they lost Pathum Nissanka for a first-ball zero. He was removed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Sri Lankan side continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 97/6 in the 16th over. It was only Charith Asalanka who showed some resistance and compiled a fifty during the course while Dushmantha Chameera chipped in with a quick-fire 24* off 14 but couldn’t take the team over the line. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers after he returned with figures of 1/11 in three overs. Apart from him, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer scalped a couple of wickets each while Ravindra Jadeja also picked up one. Earlier, in the day, the Indian batting unit was on roll after Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan provided them with a solid stand of 111 runs for the first wicket and later Shreyas Iyer got into the act to help the side out up a big total. Ishan eventually scored 89 off 56. On the other side, Iyer remained unbeaten at 57 off 28 as the hosts posted 199/2 in 20 overs. “Once I got going, I wanted to play my shots and keep the intent going, just wanted to play my shots. He (Ishan Kishan) wasn't able to time (in the middle overs), was losing patience. I just told him to take his time, look for twos and threes,” Iyer said after the match.
